Improving Edenvale CBD brick by brick

"The aim is to make the area look more appealing and attract the community and investors to the CBD,"

Monitors from Edenvale’s City Improvement District (ECID) were hard at work in central Edenvale on August 29.

The two monitors Mr Gift Gama and Mr Jean Uwayeza painted lamp posts, fences, pillars and electrical boxes.

The pair also also repaired the flowerbeds on van Riebeeck Avenue.

Mrs Linda McKenzie the manager of ECID said ECID has three monitors who are responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the ECID area.

This includes the areas from Horwood Street to Seventh Street, Seventh Avenue, Eighth Avenue, Van Riebeeck Avenue, Tenth Avenue and Voortrekker Avenue.

Mrs McKenzie said the monitors are responsible for carrying out the general upkeep maintenance and repairs in Edenvale, in the ECID.

“If there are problems with municipal services such as potholes or issues with electrical cables the monitors report it to me and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality to report the issue,” said Mrs McKenzie.

“The monitors fill one skip a day with litter and rubble cleared from Edenvale,” said Mrs McKenzie.

She said that the monitors help prevent the deterioration of Edenvale.

“Some shop owners have seen the changes that have been made in Edenvale and are starting to improve the look of their business themselves,” said Mrs McKenzie.

She said that some of the challenges that ECID face are the vagrants who dirty the CBD area as well as shops who leave rubble and litter from the shops on the pavement.

Mrs McKenzie said some upcoming plans that ECID have include:

She is also hoping to improve on the security provided by Mamba by installing security cameras in the ECID area.

“The aim is to make the area look more appealing and attract the community and investors to the CBD,” said Mrs Mckenzie.
