‘Be aware of what you post’- SAPS

"Be aware of what you post."

According to Captain Jean Olckers spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS there has recently been a large amount of false information in connection to crimes posted on social media.

He said the posting of incorrect information is a problem that leads to the community being misinformed and creates panic.

“We urge community members to verify all information with the SAPS before posting it. Please be aware of what you post,” said Capt Olckers.

He said when information is posted on social media, SAPS resources and members are dispatched only to find, on arrival what has been posted on social media is not happening.

“Following up on false information takes up time and resources,” said Capt Olckers.

Captain Olckers said that reporting false information can result in criminal charges as it is defeating the ends of justice.
