Mrs Schroder – a fund-raising champ

'As a former Jeppe Girl myself I’m happy to be working with the school and making a difference'

Jeppe High School for Girls’ school fund-raiser Mrs Sara Schroder was awarded a MySchool champion certificate on August 26.

Mrs Schroder took first place as a top school organiser out of eight schools in the east region and came second overall in the country.

“I’m proud to see my hard work pay off. As a former Jeppe Girl myself I’m happy to be working with the school and making a difference with the work I do as a fund-raiser.

“The school set my foundation and I am pleased to be back here and making a difference,” said Mrs Schroder.

MySchool is a Woolworths initiative where a customer swipes a card and a certain amount goes towards a school they have registered to benefit.

Mrs Schroder encouraged Jeppe Girls’ parents to sign up and increase the number of parents with cards which benefits the school every time they swipe.

Mrs Schroder is all about raising funds for the school to achieve their goals.

She has also started JeppeCares, a project that focuses on helping the girls in the school who may need assistance for any particular reason.

“We have girls who play sports but cannot afford to buy sports equipment or maybe cannot afford a trip. With JeppeCares we help the girls,” she said.

“Girls come to my office and share their needs with me. I then evaluate the situation and I then send messages to former Jeppe Girls or sponsors who can help with the problem. We recently helped three girls with their matric farewell attire because they could not afford to pay themselves.”

“We shared the plea with former Jeppe Girls. We asked them if they would like to donate and we managed to raise the money for the girls to go.

“They received all the pampering and dresses and accessories and that for me was the best moment, seeing the girls happy,” said Mrs Schroder.

She said JeppeCares is about making sure everyone participates in school activities and don’t miss opportunities because of lack of money.

She said JeppeCares has been amazing because girls come and talk to her and ask for help.

“To have someone to talk to makes a difference and to have someone say we will help you makes it even better,” said Mrs Schroder.

“We are currently busy raising funds for the bridge that will cross from the school to the sport grounds and that is a huge project.

“We are asking for the community to assist and support us. You don’t have to be a former Jeppe Girl to help. The bridge is important because our biggest fear is for a girl to be knocked over by a car while crossing the street because the traffic has increased in the area and the safety of the girls is important,” said Mrs Schroder.
