Bambanani to blow you away

“This brass band is pure musical magic”

Community members who attend the Edenvale City Improvement District’s (ECID) Festival of Lights and Street Carnival will be treated to a performance by the Bambanani Brass Band.

The festival, which will take place on November 5 in Van Riebeeck Avenue, will see the Alexandra band performing on a variety of instruments, including trumpets,

tubas, trombones and drums.

“This brass band is pure musical magic,” said Ms Katy Young, public relations officer for ECID.

She said the band has previously performed at ECID events and once the band starts the energy they exude is unstoppable.

The band, founded in 2000 by Mr Themba Hadebe, aims to create a service-oriented platform to promote and explore South Africa’s vast arts and culture industry whilst enhancing the socio-economic status of local artists in their community.

The band engages with social issues such as HIV, AIDS as well as TB awareness when performing, and also offers a programme to teach the youth how to read, write and play music.

Ms Young said all the band members have a passion for music and are determined to change their lives around.

Ms Young said they have participated at a number of events and locations which included the 2012 Alexandra centenary celebrations, Sun City, Gold Reef City, the PSL launch and music festival, Splashy Fen.
