Sebenza SAPS take part in the Take a Girl Child to Work initiative

Simphiwe Ndou, a Grade 4 Nobel Primary School pupil received a prize for good behaviour on August 23.

The prize was handed over to her by members of the Sebenza SAPS at the school.

Sebenza SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Sharon Mahamba-Tsotsotso said she entered The Take a Girl Child to work initiative on behalf of the station but her application was not successful as there are no primary schools in the Sebenza area.

“I was told that my application was not approved because the initiative is only open to high school girls,”said Sgt Tsotsotso.

The Take a Girl Child to Work is an initiative which was started by Cell C in order to impart knowledge to girls.

“After I was told that my application was not approved, I was surprised to be told that even though I did not meet the requirements, I would still get a prize to give to pupils at any schools of my choice. I chose Nobel Primary as one of the schools and today we will hand over one of the prizes to her,”said Sgt Tsotsotso.

Nobel Primary chose Simphiwe because she does well at the school and is well behaved. “Simphiwe is very good, intelligent and well behaved. That is why we selected her as the school to receive the prize,” said Ms Marie Bellingham, principal at the school.

Sebenza SAPS also received a certificate from Cell C for participating.

Afterwards, Sgt Tsotsotso addressed the pupils gathered at the school hall about the dangers of drugs and stealing. She spoke about consequences of such behaviour and also gave pupils a chance to ask questions at the end of the talk.
