Fundraiser kicks into higher gear

The ride will start at 9am when bikers will head to the Cardinals Baseball Club situated next to the Boksburg City Stadium.

The 2016 SPCA Animal Run will kick off from Checkers Hyper in Meadowdale, Edenvale, on Sunday, August 28.

The ride will start at 9am when bikers will head to the Cardinals Baseball Club, situated next to the Boksburg City Stadium.

The day will include good music, food and entertainment for the whole family.

Following on from the success of the last four annual SPCA Animal Runs, all bike clubs and bikers, fanatics and families are invited to participate in the fifth annual SPCA Animal Run.

This year’s event will benefit the SPCA branches in Edenvale, Benoni, Boksburg, Brakpan, Germiston, Kempton Park, Nigel and Springs.

Through the event it is hoped to raise much-needed funds as well as collect pet food, blankets, toys and other goodies.

Last year more than 2 000 bikes from more than 20 clubs took part in the event.

Over 2 500 people attended the end event.

“We look forward to an even bigger and better event this year, with over 2 500 bikes and more than 3 000 people,” said event organiser, Mr Chris Badenhorst.

The mass ride will again be marshalled by experienced volunteers and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department.

Unfortunately, due to Metro restrictions, no off-road bikes are allowed to take part in the ride this year.

“The on-going tough economic environment has many families reeling from the consequences, which unfortunately amplifies the plight of our furry friends significantly,” said Mr Badenhorst.

“The need for the SPCA to intervene has never been greater and we simply cannot cope with the sheer volume of abandoned and abused animals requiring our help.

“The Animal Run creates awareness for the SPCA and the plight of animals. All proceeds and donations will be put to good use and we would like to urge the Gauteng biker community to once again show their heart and support, while having fun at the same time,” he said.

R40 will get you into the grounds at the Boksburg Cardinals Baseball Club, which will be transformed into a fun destination complete with a beer tent, food stalls, a flea market and a bike and cash raffle, collectively valued at more than R30 000.

SPCA Animal Run 2016 t-shirts as well as cloth and metal badges, coffee mugs and SPCA Animal Run buffs will be available on the day.

Although the day is about the animals it’s not a day for the animals and those wanting to attend are asked to not bring their pets with them.
