Nkwanyana is ready to serve ward 61

"I will make myself available 24/7 to residents."

Ward 61 councillor-elect Bongani Nkwanyana is ready to serve the community.

“I will make myself available 24/7 to residents. They can reach me over the phone at any time. I promise to be available for community meetings because these are platforms where you get to discuss the issues directly affecting the community, in order for me to take them up with the municipality,” said Nkwanyana.

Nkawanyana is not new to the community as he has been working closely with residents for a number of years. He is also not new to the work of being a councillor.

He was councillor in the City of Johannesburg since 2011 and has been a member of three section 79 committees, namely the Community Development Committee, Ethics and Disciplinary and Oversight Committee on Legislature.

He said serving the community has always been a passion as he feels happy when he sees another person being assisted with a problem.

He said ward 61 has a number of issues that he would like to see resolved.

“Housing issues are really out of hand in ward 61. There are people residing in informal settlements. Industrial buildings are being converted into residential buildings and people are living in bad conditions. Places like the men’s hostels are totally neglected. Municipal owned buildings, such as Jeppe Julius Park and Jannie Court, are totally neglected.

“Service delivery rendered by municipal entities such as City Power, Joburg Water and Pikitup hardly reaches ward 61. Parks are neglected and the crime is high in the area. Residents are really not being well looked after,” said Nkawanyana.

He said after working with the community of ward 61 for so long he understands the needs and daily challenges. His only wish is to see the situation in the areas getting better.

“My wish for ward 61 is to see the KwaMai-Mai Informal Settlement and Platform 5 residents being relocated to land that can be developed. receiving houses and receiving proper service delivery.

“I also wish for the Jeppe Men’s Hostel to be maintained and its infrastructure refurbished. I would like to see the residents of the Jeppe Julius Park Residential Complex being issued with their title deeds. I also want crime to be reduced,” said Nkwanyana.

Nkwanyana said he is a community member before he is a councillor.

“I’m a father of three sons, Sthembiso (24), Qiniso (17) and Mondli (5) and partner to Lulama Jojo,” said Mr Nkwanyana.

Besides politics, MrNkwanyana is also a world acclaimed musician, composer and producer, popularly known as Bambata.

He said he is ready to serve the people and would appreciate the community’s support.

Nkwanyana will be serving the following areas: KwaMai-Mai, Jeppestown, Jules Area, Troyville, as well as Platform-5 in George Goch.

Phone Nkwanyana on 082 755 5584.
