Charmaine gives tattoos a photo finish

The eighth annual Photo and Film Expo will hit the Ticketpro Dome in Northgate from October 27 to 30.

The Photo and Film Expo is set to be held at the Ticketpro Dome, in Northgate, and is Africa’s largest event of its kind.

The expo, which focuses on the local photographic and film industries, started in 2009, with this year (2016), the eighth annual event, promising to be even bigger and better than the last.

Open to the public, the event caters for photographers and filmmakers of all skill levels and genres.

The expo offers visitors free workshops, the widest range of local and international photographic exhibitions and a chance to test/demo the equipment on show for themselves, as well as a chance to win some great prizes at the event.

Photographic muses will be made available at the event, by the creative talent of Body Incorporated.

This addition to the expo was started four years ago, when body painter and tattoo artist from Benoni, Charmaine Buttrick, invited a few fellow artists from Benoni, Kempton Park, Boksburg, Randburg, Mountainview and Lonehill to join her at her first Photo and Film Expo.

The team brings to life amazing and fantastical creations through the combination of body painting, special effects, hairstyles and make-up.

“The beautifully painted bodies at the event create very interesting and rare photo opportunities for the public,” said Charmaine.

This year, however, Charmaine will be putting down her paintbrush and picking up some needles instead, tattooing live at the expo.

With 20 years worth of experience in body painting and make-up artistry, and multiple awards under her belt, Charmaine’s progression into the tattoo industry has been a natural one.

Due to her fine arts background, she is competent in all styles of tattooing, from tribal to portraits and everything in-between and, thanks to this love and passion, she now owns and operates her own tattoo studio, TattooCharm.

“I wanted to tattoo at this year’s event, not only to share my passion, but to give photographers something completely different on which to test their new equipment,” she said.

“Tattooing is not something to which many photographers would normally be exposed, and it offers new and exciting challenges.”

You can catch Charmaine, elbow deep in ink, at the Photo and Film Expo, from October 27 to 30.
