The DA’s mayoral candidate Herman Mashaba has been elected as mayor for the City of Johannesburg.
In it’s inaugural council meeting Herman Mashaba received 144 votes while Parks Tau received 125 votes for the position.
A total of 269 votes were cast.
The DA’s Kevin Wax was also elected as Chief Whip.
The ANC failed to secure an outright majority in recent polls, managing only 44.64 percent of the vote.
Earlier this evening an ANC councillor died at the Johannesburg City Hall.
