Modderfontein Conservation Society’s annual heritage walk has been brought forward to Saturday, September 3.

The heritage walk will be around the village’s heritage precinct.

This is one of the highlights of the society’s annual activities and eagerly awaited by many, come Heritage Month.

Mr Keith Martin and Mr Robbie Vermont will conduct two urban ambles around the village on the day. Both will begin at 10:30am at the gates of The Dynamite Company Museum at number 2 Main Street, Modderfontein.

In addition to the walks, the popular farmer’s market at Historic Franz Hoenig Haus next door to the museum will be in full swing. Mr Vermont, membership secretary for Modderfontein Conservation Society, said this outing will give visitors the opportunity to find out why Modderfontein was called “A Power for Prosperity” in the area and how it contributed to the wealth and development of the East Rand and the country as a whole.

“The walks are so popular that booking is essential. The cost is R30 a head and the walks last about one and a half to two hours,”said Mr Vermont. He advised walkers to wear comfortable shoes, hats and bring something to drink if they feel they will need it.

For bookings, call Mr Vermont on 011 608 2693 or 082 800 3704 or Mr Martin on 011 608 2864, 011 652 2083 or 082 450 4003.
