Pietersen ready to serve ward 118

Ward 118 has entered into a new relationship, with its councillor-elect, Neuren Pietersen.

Ward 118 has entered into a new relationship, with its councillor-elect, Neuren Pietersen.

The EXPRESS had an opportunity to speak with him about the plans for ward 118.

Pietersen expressed his joy of the Democratic Alliance winning ward 118.

“I feel excited that we won the ward. We had challenges with one of the voting stations, Malvern Methodist Church, with an increased numbers of voters which was not suppose to be the case but we survived that,” said Pietersen.

Pietersen has hit the ground running as he has been already conducting site surveys of the different areas of the ward.

He said the survey has assisted him in understanding the areas better and the challenges to be faced.

“Ward 118 is a very diverse area as it is from low class, medium and upper class and all these groups have different needs. The challenges facing Jumpers are not the same as the challenges of Kensington.

“I have been speaking with the community to understand what the pressing issues of the areas are,” said Pietersen.

He has drawn up a wish-list of things he would like to achieve while he is serving in ward 118.

“My top five on my wish-list are a multi-purpose centre for the community and youth of Malvern, fixing of pavements, ensuring the urban development plan for Cyrildene is adhere to, addressing vagrants and windscreen washer problems, and supporting the Bruma Lake project as it would be a positive addition to the area,” said Pietersen.

He said besides his wish-list, there are a number of day-to-day challenges like waste removal, unemployment, health hazards, regular power outages and the need for business stimulation.

Pietersen has been living in the area for 16 years with his family and is based in Troyville.

He said he is ready to serve and is asking the community to work with him and also to give him the opportunity to improve the areas.

He said he knows the road will not be easy as this will be his first term serving as a ward councillor, but assured residents he is ready for the challenge.
