DA sees a landslide victory in local areas

Mayoral candidate, Ghaleb Cachalia, aims to lead a coalition government in Ekurhuleni

With talks of coalitions in the major metros still rife after the weekend, the Democratic Alliance celebrated a landslide win in the Edenvale, Bedfordview and Modderfontein areas.

The leader of the DA, Mmusi Maimane, said over the weekend the DA set out to bring the ANC to below 50 percent.

“Our mayoral candidate, Herman Mashaba, will be seeking to lead a coalition government in Johannesburg.

“In Ekurhuleni, the DA has grown from 25 percent in 2006, to 34,2 percent in 2016. The ANC’s support has collapsed from 61 percent in 2006 and 2011 to 48,6 percent in 2016. Our mayoral candidate, Ghaleb Cachalia, will seek to lead a coalition government in Ekurhuleni,” the DA leader said at a press conference.

DA Member of Parliament Mike Waters, on Monday, confirmed the DA’s intention to seek a coalition government in Ekurhuleni.

Locally, the DA ward councillor candidates celebrated victories with the following ward councillors now serving local wards:
