Christmas in July fun for the elderly

The concert was followed by tea and sandwiches, cakes and other sweet treats.

Residents of the Quondam Retirement Village, together with their friends and families, enjoyed an afternoon filled with entertainment on July 23.

The Kensington-based Johannesburg Philharmonic Choir entertained the residents and their families with some music.

The choir, which started out as the St Stithians Singers in 1971, had Quondam Retirement Village residents tapping their feet in tune with the music as they performed an hour-long concert for the village’s Christmas in July high tea.

The concert was followed by tea and sandwiches, cakes and other sweet treats, while the villagers and their guests enjoyed each other’s company.

“This is what we intended for the community centre, which was built last year. It has given our residents a place to socialise and enjoy a wide variety of different activities together,” said Quondam Retirement Village Committee chairperson, Ms Jackie Welch.

Ms Yvonne Tonini, the committee member in charge of the entertainment portfolio, was impressed with the choir’s performance.

“It really was quite fun and I thought the performance was outstanding. I hope to see the choir performing at our community centre in the future,” said Ms Tonini.
