Drugs worth R150 000 confiscated

The police received a tip off that the suspect was carrying drugs worth R150 000.

Police officers from the Johannesburg South African Narcotics Bureau Drug Unit (SANAB) arrested a 33-year-old suspect for possession of Mandrax tablets with a street value of R150 000.

The arrest was made at the corner of Dawie and Albertina Sisulu roads on July 22, at 4:30pm.

The police received a tip off that the suspect was carrying drugs worth R150 000 and was on his way to Port Elizabeth.

Upon their arrival at the intersection of Dawie and Albertina Sisulu roads, officers found the suspect waiting for a taxi.

“He was carrying a school bag and officers asked to search him. During the search they found a plastic bag containing 500 Mandrax tablets.

“The suspect was arrested and detained at the Jeppe Police Station. He will appear in the Johannesburg High Court soon,” said the Jeppe SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Richard Munyai.
