Youngsters encouraged to recycle

Ronnie recycler visits Huggie Bears Nursery School.

Greenstone resident and Schwarzkopf Professional Mrs South Africa finalist, Semone Skosan has put her support firmly behind recycling.

She recently announced her support of the Huggie Bears Nursery School’s recycling project. The school is located in Bedfordview.

Ms Adele Thompson, a procurement specialist at mpact, and Mrs Skosan visited the school on July 15.

The visit was part of the Ronnie Recycle visit, where Ronnie the mascot educated the children about recycling and environmental awareness. He also motivated learners and teachers to recycle paper weekly, via the Ronnie Bank.

“We must encourage parents to help us with recycling and tell them how your school can benefit if they help in recycling,” said Ms Thompson.

The children received Ronnie bags for recyclables.

“It’s important that we teach our children to recycle from a young age because they will grow up understanding the importance of recycling. The input of recovered paper has a positive impact on climate change, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preventing the incineration and land filling of recycled paper,” said Mrs Skosan.

Ms Thompson encouraged the Bedfordview community to support the school’s initiative and also urged other schools to be part of the recycling programmes.

Schools, charities and community groups who want to be part of the recycling programme can contact Adele Thompson on 011 538-8600 or 083 308 2031. Alternatively, send an email to athompson@mpact.co.za.
