Don’t leave strangers to work alone in your home

Sgt Tsotsotso urged people to stop hiring strangers to work in their homes.

The Sebenza SAPS has warned community members against leaving strangers to work in their homes unsupervised.

This follows after a home owner left painters working at his home while he went to the shops.

The Sebenza SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Sharon Mahamba-Tsotsotso, said the home owner left the men painting his house.

“When he came back he realised the door had been tampered with and the money he had left in the house was stolen,” said Sgt Tsotsotso.

In another incident, a woman hired men to clean her lawn and remove weeds on the pavement. She left them working while she went to the nearest shops. Sgt Tsotsotso said when the woman came back, the men had already left, the door to her house was open and some appliances were stolen.

Sgt Tsotsotso urged people to stop hiring strangers to work in their homes.

“People must get referrals from other people before they hire someone. Hiring strangers to work in your home unsupervised is very dangerous because these people don’t even have Identity Documents most of the time and it is difficult to trace them,” she said.
