‘Beggar’ nabbed for robbery

He has been charged with robbery with knife and assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm.

Bedfordview SAPS has sung the praises of Warrant Officer William Madisha and his team for a successful week of crime-fighting.

A woman was robbed when she was walking from work along Boeing Road West on June 29.

“She had just knocked off work and was making her way home when two men approached. One grabbed her bag while the other grabbed the victim. They demanded her cellphone. She told him it was in the bag and when he could not find it he told her he would stab her to death. While she was taking the cellphone out of her pocket he stabbed her in the thigh and arm,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

W/O Madisha said when he went to interview the victim she told him that she would be able to identify the suspects.

“Because she had not opened a case we drove with her to the station so that a case could be opened. While on our way, we saw a man changing clothes on the Van Buuren Road off-ramp of the N3 North. The victim went into panic mode because she recognised him. She told us he was one of the men who had attacked her,” said W/O Madisha.

He said the clothing items described by the victim were found in the possession of the suspect.

W/O Madisha attributed the success to teamwork. “Constable Mamabolo Ngwepe and I worked hard on the case. Our patrols along the highway have paid off. This should send a message to other criminals in the area that we have zero tolerance to criminals and more so especially those who target women and children in the community,” he said.

W/O Nhlabathi said the suspect was still in police custody at Boksburg Correctional Services.

He has been charged with robbery with knife and assault with intention to cause grievous bodily harm.
