IPID refutes claims that case was finalised

According to Mr Robbie Raburabu, the acting national spokesperson for the IPID, the case in question still lies on the desk of the prosecutor in Germiston.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has refuted claims that police officers under investigation for alleged police brutality were not found guilty of any wrong doing.

In a statement issued by the DA’s Member of Parliament Mike Waters last week, he claims that none of the police officers at the Edenvale Police Station have been found guilty of any wrong doing.

According to Mr Robbie Raburabu, the acting national spokesperson for the IPID, the case in question still lies on the desk of the prosecutor in Germiston.

“Kindly note that the case is still with the prosecutor in Germiston for secession and the prosecutor in question will only be back in the office next week.

“We will establish the status of the matter as soon as he comes back,” Mr Raburabu told the NEWS.

MP Waters said that seven officers from the Edenvale Police Station were investigated by the IPID over the past three years with regards to police brutality at the Edenvale Police Station.

“A recent reply to a parliamentary question revealed that none of the police officers at the Edenvale Police Station have been found guilty of any wrong doing. Not one police officer has been held accountable for their actions,” said MP Waters.

“Once Parliament re-opens, I will request a meeting with the Minister of Police, Nkosinathi Nhleko, to discuss this matter as well as the low conviction rate of drug related crimes in the precinct,” he said.
