New library and garden for Fairview Junior School

The learners will benefit from the library as now they will have a foundation of reading.

A random act of kindness is what Fairview Junior School in Troyeville received on July 13 when a container library and vegetable garden were donated to the school.

“We had a need for a library as we did not have one. The pupils will benefit from the library as now they will have a foundation of reading.

“We are humbled as a school to receive such a donation and also the vegetable garden will assist us a lot. Our pupils will appreciate what Standard Bank has done for them,” said Fairview Junior School principal Mrs J Kruger.

The library was donated by Standard Bank as part of the library project where they implement libraries in underprivileged schools.

They will be embarking on this journey for the next two years all over the country.

Fairview is the first school to benefit from the project.

“Standard Bank wanted to give back to the community with something that will be a long-term investment. It was important for us to make an impact in the community and not just do little events that would not benefit the community.

“Early childhood learning is important because that is where a child can be encouraged to read and learn about what is ahead of them and a library is the best gift for a school,” said Ms Valerie Pave, Standard Bank executive of business enablement and support team (B.E.S.T).

The B.E.S.T team completed tasks on the day including installing and painting shelves and painting wall murals on the outside of the container library, fitting a carpet for the library and setting up the vegetable garden.
