Edenvale’s Uncle will be remembered

"Mr Tworetzky was an entrepreneur and contributed largely to the development of the Edenvale business community."

Mr Morris Tworetzky, the owner of Discount Timber and Hardware in Van Riebeeck Avenue Edenvale, died at the age of 90.

“He was one of Edenvale’s oldest registered traders,” said Mr Tworetzky’s daughter, Ms Nadine Kramer.

Mr Tworetzky started trading in 1968 at 131 Van Riebeeck Avenue in Edenvale, renting property from the original founder of Edenvale, the late Harry Sneech.

“He was fondly known as ‘Uncle’. Everyone knew if they wanted anything from a nail to financial advice or just a friendly chat, it was always readily available. If he did not have the requested article, a very rare occurrence, he would locate it for the customer and obtain it from the furthest corner of the globe,” said Ms Kramer.

“He freely gave his time and expertise. He dispensed many a hot mug of soup in winter or a consoling cup of tea and a shoulder to lean upon. He was an entrepreneur and contributed largely to the development of the Edenvale business community. Anyone who came for a donation never left empty handed or disappointed.”
