Case of online fraud opened

W/O Olckers requested that websites confirm information before publishing.

A case of fraud has been opened at the Edenvale Police Station by a member of the public.

According to the spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS Warrant Officer Jean Olckers, the individual was receiving phone calls in connection to an advert they had not placed.

Callers were seeking employment and wanted to buy motorbikes which they saw on the fake advert on an online buying and selling website.

“The Edenvale SAPS are investigating further. The individual’s company and private number were in the online advertisement,” said W/O Olckers.

“The advertisement offered ridiculous salaries for job seekers and prices for motorbikes and has since been taken down by the website,” said W/O Olckers.

“The Edenvale SAPS would like websites to confirm all information with the person who puts them on the site.”
