Charming church still going strong

The St Francis in the Wood Anglican Church is still operating despite the construction of the Lakeside Shopping Centre.

The St Francis in the Wood Anglican Church is still operating despite the construction of the Lakeside Shopping Centre.

The church is situated alongside the construction site at the corner of Valley Road and Queens Street.

Ms Carol Olive said the church is alive and well and she wants members to be aware of that.

“However you choose to describe the location of the church, nothing has not changed. The church continues to meet the spiritual needs of Modderfontein as it has done for the past 62 years. Its bell rings out regularly on Sunday mornings, welcoming both new and existing parishioners to its serene surroundings. Services and junior church are held every Sunday at 8am,” said Ms Olive.

Ms Olive said morning markets are also held at the church on the second Saturday of each month.

“Members of the community are welcome to join us at these markets. They can join us at the tea garden, browse the bookstalls or find that treasure at the white elephant stall. Other stalls include jewellery, home-made breads, jams, marmalades and wooden crafts,” said Ms Olive.

The market is open from 9am to 1pm. For more information about the church and the market, contact Ms Anne Ireland on 072 294 3703 or you can contact Ms Eileen Powell on 078 360 6743. You can also contact Ms Carol Olive on 082 659 2132 or the church office on 011 975 5359.
