Vouks – a rising star in breakdancing

Vouks is no stranger to the dance community as he is a skilled choreographer and has been dancing for more than a decade.

Cyrildene breakdancer, Gerald Witbooi AKA Vouks from Cyrildene was among the 20 gifted South African dancers who were selected to attend the first Red Bull BC One camp.

Vouks is no stranger to the dance community as he is a skilled choreographer and has been dancing for more than a decade.

“I have been dancing professionally for about 15 years. My experience has been enriching not only to me but also to the audience that I perform for,” said Vouks.

Vouks has career highlights that he holds dear.

“Meeting the legendary Ramone from Prophets of Da City (POC) and DJ Ready D. Those two icons are who I believe kicked off the start of my career. It felt as though I became a second generation of this hip-hop crew, having seen them on TV and heard them on the radio, it was truly inspiring to be involved with them and form part of the movement,” said Vouks.

He said sharing the stage internationally with international musicians and bands is a special memory for him when he thinks of things he has achieved in his career.

He said he will always think fondly of his performance for the late former President Nelson Mandela.

“Dancing for an icon of his magnitude was an incredible experience. Being part of the 46664 concert and sharing the stage with international artists like P. Diddy, Beyoncé and others was amazing,” said Vouks.

It’s evident that Vouks enjoys his dancing and he is proud of what he has achieved.

“I enjoy dancing and performing in front of large audiences. This ability to perform under pressure has served me well. My career continues to flourish. I will keep on raising the standard of b-boying by improving my skills,” said Vouks.
