Charities in the spotlight

Park Meadows Shopping Centre will be giving more than 67 minutes in commemorating International Nelson Mandela Day

Park Meadows Shopping Centre will be giving more than 67 minutes in commemorating International Nelson Mandela Day.

Park Meadows is calling on all registered charity organisations to put up their stands at the mall for four days.

“We would like to give the charities the exposure they need. Having them here interacting with people will give them that opportunity. This will also assist people in educating themselves about different charities out there and understand what is needed by them,” said Mr Leo Van Straten, the regional marketing manager of Redefine Properties, the owners of Park Meadows.

This year will be the fourth year the centre is running the project.

Charities will be allocated a space, worth R8 200, for free, to use for four days.

They will use that space to display their banners and promote their organisation’s activities.

“They just have to set up and manage their stands from 10am to 5pm for the four days. The charities will showcase themselves at the centre from July 14 to 17.

“We would also like to invite shoppers to donate anything they may not have use for anymore to charities – it can be clothes, canned food and anything else that may be of use. Drop donations off at Park Meadows from June 1,” said Mr van Straten.

“The centre will then allow the charities to take anything that they may need from those donations,” said Mr van Straten.

The initiative coordinator, Mrs Sandi van Tonder, said she would love to see new charities coming to inform the community of the wonderful work they do.

“We invite all registered charities to come and give information to the people and they are welcome to sell also on the day. We have charities who sell on the day and make money for their charities,” said Mrs van Tonder.
