Unlicensed firearm found

The three men aged 28, 34 and 38 were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and detained at the Jeppe Police Station.

Jeppe police officers arrested three suspects for possession of an unlicensed firearm on June 20 in Bezuidenhout Valley.

“Officers on patrol around the Bezuidenhout Valley area noticed the occupants of a black Opel Corsa behaving suspiciously on 5th Street,” said Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Richard Munyai.

The officers stopped the vehicle and searched it as was well as the occupants.

During the search officers found a black pistol and when the vehicle’s occupants were asked about it all three suspects alleged they knew nothing about the firearm.

The three men aged 28, 34 and 38 were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and detained at the Jeppe Police Station.

“During preliminary investigations it was discovered that one of the men was released from prison on parole after serving a 17-year sentence for armed robbery,” W/O Munyai said.

The men have since appeared in the Johannesburg High Court where the case against them was postponed for further investigations.
