In celebration of Youth Day, Sebenza SAPS held a 5km fun walk and a soccer match on June 18 with the youth from Sebenza and surrounding areas.

The Sebenza SAPS communications officer, Sergeant Sharon Mahamba-Tsotsotso said the walk was held to commemorate Youth Day because the youth is an important part of any community and it is important to get them involved in community initiatives such as this.

“The day was also to remember Mr Martin Dlamini who died on June 16, 2010. He was part of the Sebenza Youth Desk,” said Sgt Tsotsotso.

The fun walk was attended by sector managers, Constable Brenda Kgadima, Sergeant Barbara Tshunungwa and the Sebenza Community Policing Forum (CPF).

As social crime coordinator, Sgt Tsotsotso also attended the walk.

“The walk was well attended with about 100 people who took part. The message that we want to send out there is for the youth to stay away from crime and stop abusing drugs. We want them to focus on things that will better their lives, like focusing on school. The youth of 1976 already paved the way for today’s youth, it is now up to them to move forward and take advantages of our democracy,” said Sgt Tsotsotso.
