Two receive a combined 18 years in prison

The Johannesburg Magistrate's Court has sentenced Khulekani Nxumalo to eight years in prison for possession of unlicensed firearm.

The Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court has sentenced Khulekani Nxumalo to eight years in prison for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“On Tuesday May 26, 2015 at about 2:45pm police officer from Johannesburg flying squad were patrolling when they came across four men at Vickers Street in City Deep. They stopped and searched the men.

“Upon searching them they found Nxumalo in a possession of a firearm L32 CAL Auto with three live rounds. It was later discovered that the firearm was used in an armed robbery case in Honeydew in 2008. Nxumalo was arrested and detained at Jeppe SAPS,” said Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Richard Munyai.

Meanwhile Khulekani Luvuno (24) was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for armed robbery.

“In August 18, 2015 at about 7.15pm, a woman was coming from church when she was approached by two men at corner Beit and Irene streets in Doornfontein. The men threatened to stab her with knives if she screamed. They took her bag and ran away.

“The woman screamed and people who were around gave chase. Metro police officers saw them and gave chase as well. They managed to arrest Luvuno and found him in the possession of the bag which was robbed from the woman. They arrested and detained him at Jeppe SAPS,” said W/O Munyai.
