Assistance needed to raise funds for local children’s home

It is funded by the Department of Social Development, and employs over a hundred caregivers.

EDITOR – Khanyisani Home Based Care has been operating in the eastern suburbs of Johannesburg for well over a decade, providing health and social services to impoverished communities.

It is funded by the Department of Social Development, and employs over a hundred caregivers.

For most of its existence, the organisation has been based at SAPS Cleveland, but due to the upcoming major renovations, was asked to relocate last year.

The City of Joburg provided a container office, based in a disused sports field in Malvern, which houses the 10 clerical and management staff.

In terms of the Childrens’ Act, the organisation must provide flushing toilets with water-borne sewerage in order to continue operating.

No budget has been provided.

The organisations secretary, Mr Mike van Koningsbruggen, estimates that a prefabricated toilet block will cost R50 000 to purchase, install, and connect to water and sewerage.

He will be conducting a fund-raising drive among local businesses in the next few weeks. Anyone wishing to assist can contact Mike on 084 362 7798, or the Project Manager Artwell Dlamini on 084 734 7343.
