Top budgies chosen

A grey green young cock was the winner of the day.

The East Rand Budgerigar Society hosted the 2016 Championship Show at the Dickie Fritz Moth Hall on Saturday, May 28.

The championship was a provincial event that attracted competitors from Pretoria, Johannesburg, Northern Gauteng and the East Rand. The show allowed for the best bird to be chosen from each category, with the bird’s colour determining what category they are placed in. Categories vary as greatly as the colours do.

The best birds of the day were:

A grey green young cock, which was the budgie that placed first. Birds under two years can win this title.
A cinnamon blue hen was the runner up; a bird of the opposite sex is chosen to be the runner up.
A cinnamon green budgie won the best bird of any age. Any bird two years or older can win this title.

“A lot of people came and the day was very good,” said Mr Raj Naicker the chairperson of the East Rand Budgerigar Society.

“The atmosphere at the event was nice and the visitors enjoyed it,” said Mr Naicker.
