Edenvale business robbed

The suspects abandoned the blue Mercedes they were travelling in, along with some of the items they had taken from the store.

Robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and goods when they robbed a business along Van Riebeeck Avenue in Edenvale.

The incident took place on Sunday morning, May 29.

The acting communications officer for the Edenvale SAPS, Warrant Officer Jean Olckers, said seven suspects armed with firearms entered the business at around 10am and took cash and goods.

“During the robbery a shot was fired,” said W/O Olckers.

“A high speed chase ensued after a security officer, who was responding to a panic button at the store, arrived. Despite being shot at twice, he did not stop,” said W/O Olckers.

The suspects abandoned the blue Mercedes they were travelling in, along with some of the items they had taken from the store, and entered a red VW Golf and fled.

W/O Olckers commended the security officer from Savika Armed Response for chasing the suspects while under fire.

“Police officers are still looking for the suspects, but no arrests have been made.” he said.

W/O Olckers gave the following tips to business owners to prevent their businesses from being robbed:
