Matric farewell project kicks off

The project allows ex matriculants to #PassOnTheMagic to families who cannot afford to buy a new dress for their daughters.

It is almost that time of the year for matric dances and there are those who are blessed to afford and step out in their best for the grand occasion.

Those who are less fortunate find themselves depressed because they cannot afford to enjoy this celebration, and this is where the Sparkle Me Designs Project comes in.

The local project allows ex-matriculants to #PassOnTheMagic to families who cannot afford to buy a new dress for their daughters.

The project, run by businesswoman and Kensington resident, Mrs Chantal Moehrke (51) will kick off for the first time this year.

“I am calling on all the ex-matricalants who have their dresses in their wardrobes and would like to give back to the community to support this project. I am asking them to please be so kind as to give them to the Sparkle Me Designs Project, so we can give the children who cannot afford their own dresses the chance to still feel and look beautiful on this special occasion. We want every matric girl to walk into their matric dance feeling special,” said Mrs Moehrke.

“These young ladies and men are finishing off their school career. What better way to see them off to their future with a bang? My eldest daughter came up with an idea and said there are lots of children who are doing matric this year and said to me we should do something for those who cannot afford the outfits,” said Mrs Moehrke.

“This inspired me to take action and start this project for the local matrics and for the schools.”

“Looking good, confident and excited is a memory they will never forget. I would like the local salons, beauticians, nail artists and boutiques (shoes and dresses) to be part of this initiative for the community. I’m calling on all high schools to contact me so we can assist and explain the project in detail and assist where needed,” said Mrs Moehrke.

“As a mother of five ex-matriculants we know how difficult and expensive it is to make sure our children have the best in their last and final year. Unfortunately not everyone can afford it,” said Mrs Moehrke.
