EcoTrail event promises to be a hit

Late entries will available on the day at a cost of R140 per person.

The wait is almost over for the annual St Andrew’s School for Girls EcoTrail Hike and Bike event taking place on July 16.

The event, which aims to bring the community together through fitness, is hosted in celebration of the International Nelson Mandela Day.

Participants will spend 67 minutes of their day running, hiking or biking while giving back to a cause.

Proceeds from the event will go to the school’s social development programme, uBambiswano (“holding hands”). This is a Saturday School programme held at St Andrew’s and is aimed at pupils from disadvantaged communities and under-performing schools.

The event will take place at Huddle Park.

Online registrations are R100 per person, for any route, and close on July 11.

There is no charge for children under three years of age. No entrance fee will be applicable for dogs on leads, however, a donation of animal food or blankets will be welcome.

There will be a collection point for donations of animal food and blankets for shelter animals.

Starting routes and times for the different routes have been set.

The 10km+ Mountain Bike Ride will start at 8am while the 10km Trail Run or Walk will start at 8:15am.

The 5km Trail Run or Walk will start at 8:30am and the 2,5km Trail Run or Walk will start at 8:45am.

Food and beverages will be on sale.

There will be jumping castles and face-painting to entertain the kids.

Stalls representing health, fitness and wellness will be present at the event.

Parking will be available at the venue at R10 per car.
