Clr Humphreys talks service delivery

She said substations are also vulnerable to theft.

Ward 20 councillor, Clr Jill Humphreys has urged residents to be vigilant when moving around the suburb.

She said areas surrounding Bedfordview recently experienced cases of cable theft.

“Although this has not been a problem in our area, we need to be proactive and make sure we stop them in their tracks before they can come to our area. We need people to report any suspicious activities to the police. We have trenches being dug in most places and that makes it difficult for residents to tell if the people seen are rightfully there. Be aware and let authorities know should you notice any suspicious activity,” said Clr Humphreys.

She said substations are also vulnerable to theft.

Clr Humphreys said as far as billing matters are concerned, residents must know their meter readings.

“If your meter is situated where it cannot be reached by meter readers the best option is to take the reading yourself and email them through to avoid getting an interim reading,” she said.

Clr Humphreys said the construction of a traffic calming circle was under way at the corner of Nicol and Collins roads.

As far as Oriel Park is concerned, Clr Humphreys told residents landscaping had started. “Although I think the timing was not right, it being winter, I do hope the plants will survive the cold,” she said.

She said the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) had fixed the sewage leak that polluted the Oriel Stream feeding into the Gillooly’s Dam.

Clr Humphreys said residents need to report leaks to the call centre. “Get the reference number and if you find no joy let me know – I am always happy to escalate,” said Clr Humphreys.
