"The Gauteng paddlers have started the river race season and are preparing for their first A grade river race which takes place in October."

Jaco Esterhuyse, an Edenvale resident, took part in a river race on the Klip River in order to train for the upcoming A grade races.

He finished the 23km challeneg in 2 hours 16 minutes.

The race was hosted by the Florida Lake Canoe Club and took place from Meyerton to Three Rivers where the Klip runs into the Vaal River. The race allowed paddlers to train, qualify and obtain experience for the A grade race

The Gauteng paddlers have started the river race season and are preparing for their first A grade river race which takes place in October in Cradock, on the Fish River, covering a distance of 80km over two days.

Esterhuyse is a member of the Victoria Lake Canoe Club at Germiston Lake, and enjoyed his first K1 (single) river race.
