Local waitress regains hope

"Her goal is to go back to university where she would like to study hotel management."

The health of a parent is vital not only to themselves but to the child that they care for.

Mrs Dalubuhle Mkhwanzy, a 22-year-old mother of a three-year-old child, knows this better than anyone else.

Mrs Mkhwanzy, an Edenvale resident who works at Danilos Trattoria in Edenvale, was diagnosed with a heart problem at the age of 12. She received medication and injections every month.

Life began to get more challenging for Mrs Mkhwanzy when she entered the workplace.

She works as a waitress at the restaurant and has been doing so for the last two years. Doctors told her that she might only have eight more months to live. However the doctors were unsure whether it was water or fatty tissue on the heart.

After being told that the surgery would be extremely risky, Mrs Mkhwanzy was given a glimmer of hope, as the result of a new system that could allow for the possible water on the heart to be drained, through the use of tubes.

The money raised so far and in the future, through the use of a website, will be used if an operation is needed. However, if she dies as a result of her condition the money will be used to support her child. over the years. Mrs Mkhwanzy has received a lot of support.

Mrs Mkhwanzy said that if she lives past her eight months prescribed to her, that her goal would be to go back to university where she would like to study hotel management.
