Horwood’s Farm cleaned up

"A focus area is targeted for a multi-departmental intervention."

The clean city project, an initiative of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) that aims to clean up the region, meets on the last Friday of every month.

The project helps to provide a cleaner and greener city.

“The municipality is serious about keeping the city clean and green. The only way to achieve this is through involving the members of the community in their own wards,” said the MMC for the environment, Clr Ndosi Shongwe.

“A focus area is targeted for a multi-departmental intervention, including senior officials. I believe the original intention was to get the communities involved as well,” said the ward 18 councillor, Clr Heather Hart.

On April 29, the target area was a section of Horwood’s Farm.

“Many complaints have also been lodged by members of the community regarding the number of vagrants in the park,” said Clr Hart.

She said, “Despite the efforts of the EMPD, it has proven impossible to keep the homeless out of this area and so it was decided to clean up all the undergrowth and open up the area to deter people from wanting to stay there.”

Not only does Clr Hart hope that the community can get involved, but that the Clean City Friday project’s focus will stay in the Horwood’s Farm area.

“It will take some time to clean up,” she said.
