“Thumping music” irks resident

An Edenvale resident has had enough of a pool club playing loud music into the early hours of the morning.

The establishment, across the road from the resident, plays its music throughout the night and into the early hours of the morning.

“Thumping music was played until 3.30am this morning. They just ignore and carry on with no fear from our cops,” the resident stated in a letter dated April 2.

The spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), Mr Themba Gadebe, said the City of Ekurhuleni’s air quality section is responsible for investigating noise complaints.

The SAPS and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) also assist with noise-related complaints, especially during after hours.

Mr Gadebe said according to the the Noise Control Regulations, General Notice 5479 of 20 August 1999 is the correct regulation pertaining to noise.

It specifically states that:

“The complaint has already been investigated and the Environmental Health Practitioner issued a verbal and written warning to the owner/manager of the facility,” said Mr Gadebe in response to the complaint about the noise from the pool club.
