Village Toastmaster, Ms Nosipho Shongwe, claimed first place in the prepared speech category.

The Mandeville Sports Centre was host to the Toastmasters International Area I4 contest.

Toastmasters from clubs in the Bedfordview and Edenvale areas competed against each other in the prepared speech and speech evaluation categories.

The event was abuzz with excitement, according to the vice president of public relations (VPPR) for Village Toastmasters, Ms Seshnee Govender.

Village Toastmaster, Ms Nosipho Shongwe, claimed first place in the prepared speech category.

She moved the audience with a powerful, poignant account of her life’s journey to success amidst difficult personal circumstances.

The speech evaluation category saw contestants critically appraise a demo speech. Mr Laurence Newman and Ms Viviane Rozanski represented the Village Toastmasters in this category and were placed second and third respectively.

“All three of our members have worked tremendously hard to ensure they do their best. More than half of our club’s members attended the contest to encourage them, a testimony to our club’s supportive spirit. We are truly proud tonight,” said Ms Govender.

The winners of the evening will now go through to the district competition.

Village Toastmasters meets the third Tuesday of every month at the Trinity Presbyterian Church on the corner St David and Koster Roads in Elma Park.
