EMPD High Speed Unit members were out in full force on Saturday, April 16, along the N3 highway near the Linksfield Road bridge in the Bedfordview area.
Eight driver were arrested for speeding.
The arrests took place between 5.25am and 6.30am.
Seven men and one woman were charged with reckless and negligent driving at the Bedfordview Police Station.
A variety of reasons were advanced by the arrested drivers, which included the usual rushing to work, late for a flight and dashing home to a sick child.
The arrested drivers, aged between 34 and 60, were clocked at 179, 173, 170, 168, 164, 162 and two at 161km/h on the 120km/h stretch of highway.
The arrestees were released after posting bail of R1 500 each.
