Peters orders RTMC to launch investigation to determine cause of bus crash

Minister confirms 11 dead.

The Minister of Transport, Ms Dipuo Peters, sent condolences to the families, friends and the entire African National Congress family, in particular the ANC Ekurhuleni region, Grace Flathela Zone, for the loss of volunteers involved in a bus carnage in the Free State, yesterday.

“The bus overturned around Kroonstaad earlier Sunday morning when returning from the ANC’s Election Manifesto Launch, which was held on Saturday in Port Elizabeth,” a statement by the Minister reads.

At about 5.30pm yesterday Minister Peters confirmed that 11 people had died while others were airlifted to various hospitals in the Free State.

Minister Peters wished those admitted to hospital a speedy recovery, and enjoined the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) to immediately commence with the investigations into the cause of the carnage and for the Road Accident Fund to give the family of the deceased and the injured the necessary support and comfort.

“All attempts are made to track and inform the next of kin on the 11 fatalities,” the Minister said.
