Teagan gets ready for the grand finale

She said she will work hard in the final round of the competition but she is also determined to stay true to herself.

Teagan van Tonder has made it to the finalists’ round of the Miss Teen Commonwealth SA pageant.

“Being in the finals feels great, but it is also a lot of pressure. I’ve made so many friends in the competition,” said Teagan.

She said the competition is gaining momentum and finalists now have to raise R3 000 in sponsorship and volunteer for community work.

“I’ve really enjoyed it and even if I don’t win, I’ve gained so much from the Commonwealth women and being part of the event.

“Personally, this competition means a lot to me. The pageant isn’t based on how you look. It is based on your attitude to empower, inspire and motivate women and your community,” said Teagan.

She said she will work hard in the final round of the competition but she is also determined to stay true to herself.

“I’m not going to put a mask on and be someone I’m not. I am proud of who I am and I want people to be able to see the real me. Authenticity is key,” said Teagan.

She said her family has been a major support structure for her.

“When I feel down, I go to my mom and we speak about everything. My dad has been great. He takes me places I need to be. He’s just been awesome, just as he always is. My grandma has been my number one fan and my sister has also been supporting me.

“My friends also support me a lot,” said Teagan.

Teagan is currently preparing for the grand finale.

“We have three costume changes. I’m looking forward to it. I have the best sponsors. I wish to thank Du Plessis Electrical and Paul James Hairdressing,” said Teagan.

“I just want to empower people generally to love themselves no matter what. It’s beautiful seeing people with self confidence and trust in themselves,” said Teagan.
