Residents step in to uplift local post office

Mrs Pompa said her company has a maintenance plan in place to keep the area clean and safe.

Members of the community heeded calls to join hands with the Pompa Realty Group and give the Bedfordview Post Office (PO) a face lift.

The clean up took place last Friday.

Stakeholders, including the Bedfordview Community Policing Forum (BCPF), branch managers from PO branches in the Wits Central area, as well as the general public were in attendance.

The ward 20 councillor, Clr Jill Humphreys, also took part in the day’s activities.

Mrs Bridgette Pompa said she decided to take matters into her own hands when she saw the dilapidated state of the post office.

“I was sick and tired of seeing how bad this space looked. I decided to stand up and make a difference. I am grateful for all the sponsorship and support I received for the project,” said Mrs Pompa.

She said part of the plans include installing a lighting system to make sure the area is well-lit at night.

Mrs Pompa said her company has a maintenance plan in place to keep the area clean and safe.

Area manager for the Wits Central area, Ms Saloshnee Pillay, said due to challenges faced by the PO, maintenance has not been done at any of the branches.

“We are grateful for this initiative and are thankful that the community we service came out in numbers to support and help us,” she said.

Mrs Pompa said the clean up included laying new grass, painting, new pillars and installing new lights among other things.

She said security was also on the cards to make sure people are safe when collecting mail.
