Taxi driver killed in road rage incident

Taxi driver died fighting for his friend.

A taxi driver was struck with one punch and died in Yeoville on Wednesday, March 30.

The Yeoville SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji, said a road-rage incident ensued between a sedan driver and the taxi driver shortly after 5pm.

“They stopped at the corner of Cavendish and Raleigh roads. As the argument continued between the two, more taxi drivers arrived and the argument grew heated.

“Police officers arrived and were able to stop the fight. A taxi driver, who had a fight with a sedan driver, left the scene. As the police were about to leave, another taxi driver argued with the sedan driver. The sedan driver punched him and he collapsed. The sedan driver left the scene,” said Const Malatji.

The taxi driver was rushed to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.
