St Benedict’s get ready for the world championships

John Elliot spends time with St Benedict’s College Pipe Band.

Mr John Elliot from G1 Chanters and Reeds, Scotland, met the St Benedict’s College Pipe Band recently.

The school’s head of marketing, Ms Chantelle Burgin, said this was part of the band’s preparation for the World Pipe Band Championships, which will take place in Scotland later this year.

“Mr Elliot delivered new bagpipe chanters and worked with the boys to teach them how to best tune their bagpipes. He passed on his knowledge to the boys, which will help them tremendously as they prepare to travel to compete at the World Pipe Band Championships,” she said.

She said Mr Elliot is renowned for an ‘unforgiving ear’ and accepts nothing less than excellence.

“Since starting the business in 2010 making bagpipe reeds, G1 Reeds has grown in size and now manufactures a range of bagpipe products. Its latest innovation, G1 platinum pipe chanters, are being played at the top of grade one by Inveraray and District and many other top bands,” said Ms Burgin.

She said G1 Reeds was founded by Mr Elliott, who at that time had more than 18 years’ experience in making reeds, chanters and other pipe band products of the highest standard.
