Reservoir runs dry during maintenance

Residents in other areas such as Kensington, Malvern, Troyeville, Cyrildene, Bellevue and Bruma also reported that their taps had run dry.

Most of the Joburg East areas were without water as the Yeoville reservoir ran dry last Monday during maintenance work.

“Rand Water shut down the supply to the Yeoville water reservoir for maintenance work. They took too long to restart the water and the reservoir ran dry,” said the ward 66 councillor, Clr Carlos da Rocha.

“The Yeoville reservoir supplies my entire area (ward 66) as well as Houghton, Yeoville, Observatory, Bez Valley – a huge area,” he said.

Residents in other areas such as Kensington, Malvern, Troyeville, Cyrildene, Bellevue and Bruma also reported that their taps had run dry.

“Because this tank services thousands of homes and residents, it will take some time for the pressure to be back to normal. For those in the lower areas such as Bez Valley, besides low water pressure, they will have water. The higher ground areas will be a struggle,” said Clr Da Rocha.
