Celebrate Human Rights Day by donating blood

To meet the growing need for blood, the SANBS must collect 3 000 units of blood units daily.

As South Africa gets ready to celebrate Human Rights Day on March 21, the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) sees this period as the perfect moment to reflect and raise awareness of the people who need life-saving blood transfusions to live.

Blood donations will be held at Greenstone Shopping Centre, at the @Home court close to entrance four, on March 18 and 21 from 10am to 3pm.

Many people will celebrate this Human Rights Day because a life-saving blood transfusion was available when they needed it. Blood donors afford those who suffer from aplastic anaemia, mothers in labour, cancer patients and accident victims a second chance to complete their life stories.

This is the underlying message of a campaign called #GiveATomorrow, which the SANBS will roll out to emphasise the important role that blood donors play in promoting people’s right to life.

Ms Raju said the SANBS has a diverse donor base of over 490 000 people and although this is good, the organisation is always looking to recruit more members into its family of dedicated volunteers.
