Nursing sister loves working at retirement village

The community's assistance at the centre is important as the centre often has school pupils doing their community service at the centre.

In the humming halls of the Eden Haven Retirement Village, the staff are constantly ensuring that residents are receiving the correct care.

Nursing Sister Marie, from the care centre, is one of the staff members providing care to the residents.

In April, Nursing Sister Marie will have been working at the centre for two years. In all her time at Eden Haven, she said she has found the atmosphere at Eden Haven to be very homely, with “wonderful management”.

Head Matron Fourie and Mrs Lombard from administration make sure the facility operates correctly.

Not only does Eden Haven ensure the residents are taken care of, management accommodates the staff to make sure that any needs of the staff are taken care of. Nursing sister Marie said that the security at the centre is very good both internally and externally and as far as she knows there have been no incidents

Nursing Sister Marie trained in the Western Cape and has worked at Arbor Village, Sandringham Gardens and at St Annes. She has a lot of experience and is happy with the conditions of Eden Haven. She enjoys working there and said, “The residents make your day.”

Eden Haven makes sure the residents are taken care of; they plan activities for the elderly, such as playing bingo, going outside for tea parties and just going outside to enjoy some fresh air.

The community’s assistance at the centre is important as the centre often has school pupils doing their community service at the centre. Members of the community also help out at the centre, providing assistance and helping to host bingo games.

Eden Haven also allows individuals from the Arwyp Medical Centre to do their practicals and get experience at the centre.

Eden Haven will be hosting a fête on Saturday, April 2, where the entire family can have fun. Steak and boerewors rolls, along with pancakes, will be sold and a children’s corners will also be there for youngsters to have fun.
