Toastmaster contestants impress with their speeches

Speech evaluation should highlight areas of improvement.

The Village Toastmasters contest was an exciting one as club members competed with one another in the prepared speech and evaluation categories.

The winner, Ms Nosipho Shongwe, emerged victorious in the hotly contested prepared-speech category.

Her inspirational speech about her personal journey to success amidst tragic circumstances had the audience captivated.

The winner of the evaluation category, Ms Viviane Rozanski, demonstrated how to evaluate to motivate.

According to Ms Seshnee Govender from Village Toastmasters, the feedback is an essential skill required in all areas of life.

“Contestants are required to demonstrate their ability to critically assess the speech. Their speech evaluation should highlight areas of improvement while ensuring that the speaker remains motivated to achieve their speaking goals,” she said.

The winners will go through to the area competition. Village Toastmasters meets on the third Tuesday of every month at Trinity Presbyterian Church Hall, corner St David and Koster roads, Elma Park.
