Drought affected areas need your help

Businesses, community urged to get on board and help bring relief to drought stricken areas.

With a drought gripping most parts of the country, many people and animals are going without the basic necessity of water.

With this in mind, Caxton Local Newspapers is appealing to the community to join hands with the group in hydrating schools.

The project kicks off in March.

“It is scientifically proven that the brain is 85 percent water and it does not work to its optimal level if it is dehydrated,” said Christopher Mcinga, one of the branch managers at Caxton Local Newspapers East and South division.

“We want to assist communities, especially children, by installing Jojo tanks at schools in areas which have been severely affected by the water shortage crisis.”

According to Operation Hydrate, one of the affected areas is Modimolle and its surrounding areas in Limpopo Province.

Dikubu Primary School in Mookdophong is one of the schools affected by the water shortage.

The school has 1 447 pupils all relying on one borehole and one tank for water.

Another school, much like Dikubu Primary School, is Dagbreek Primary School in Modimolle.

According to the headmaster of the school, they would be grateful to receive any assistance as they only have one Jojo tank installed at the school and they could do with more.

“To take part in this initiative you can join hands with groups in your community to raise funds and purchase a Jojo tank as a collective in the community.

“Businesses are also encouraged to participate in this initiative,” said Mcinga.

Jojo tanks can be delivered to Caxton Local Newspapers East Rand branch, situated at 19 Sydney Road, Boksburg.

When making your delivery ask for Mcinga, he can also be contacted on 011 916-5402 for more information.

A photo will be taken and published in your local newspaper to show your support of the initiative.
