St Andrew’s makes a difference

The initiative aims to have collected R95 million worth of water by July 18.

The St Andrew’s School for Girls community joined thousands of South Africans and opened their hearts by donating over 7 000 litres of water to Operation Hydrate.

On February 15, the initiative’s Mr Yusuf Abramjee spoke at the senior school assembly and thanked the pupils for their contribution.

He also gave insight into the massive need and how precious every drop of water is.

The school also thanked all parents, pupils and staff who brought water.

Special thanks went out to the Bullah family, who donated more than 500 litres, and to the Bedfordview sanctuary, which also collected water for those in need and used the school as their drop-off zone.

South Africa is currently in the grip of its worst drought in over 100 years. Dam and river levels continue to drop, and taps in affected areas have run dry.

Operation Hydrate has thus far distributed over eight million litres of water to areas such as Modimolle, QwaQwa, Senekal and Swartruggens.

The initiative aims to collected R95-million worth of water by July 18.
